How to Sign In and Navigate the UBalt Virtual Environment

 

 

1. In a browser, navigate to virtual.ubalt.edu the VMware/Omnissa Horizon login page and sign into the Web Client or launch the native client

                  Both methods provide access to your virtual desktop and applications, there are some important differences to consider.

        

 

Native Client

Web Client (HTML Access)

Installation

Requires installation of the Omnissa Horizon Client on your device.

No installation required; access through a supported web browser.

USB Devices

Full support for USB devices, including scanners, smart cards, and other specialized peripherals.

Limited USB support; primarily supports file sharing and local printing.

Multiple Monitors

Full multi-monitor support for an enhanced desktop experience.

Multi-monitor support may be limited depending on the browser and device being used.

Recommendation: For the best overall experience and access to all Horizon features, we recommend using the Omnissa Horizon Native Client with Mozilla Firefox browser whenever possible.

The Web Client is a convenient alternative when software installation is not available or when temporary access is needed from a web browser

 

2. Next, enter Your Username

Type your assigned username in the Username field wehn prompted using the NetID@ubalt.edu format.

3. Enter Your Password

Type your password and select Sign In / Login.

After signing in, select the desktop/pool you use (example: your assigned virtual desktop).

5. Wait for the Virtual Desktop to Load

The system will connect and load your virtual desktop. This may take a moment.

6. Access Your Desktop

Once connected, your “Virtual Workspace” desktop and shortcuts will appear.:

7. Printing

When you print from the virtual desktop, choose the correct printer from the list. Your local printers may appear automatically.

If you need to add a network printer when on campus:

Open File Explorer


Type “\\cispcut” in the address bar and hit the right arrow 

Double-click on the printer you wish to install

8. Access Local Drives

To access files from your local device, open File Explorer and look under This PC for redirected drives.

9. Using Multiple Displays

  WINDOWS DEVICES

  By default when signing onto the Omnissa/Horizon application your device
  will go into full screen mode. To exit , click “Exit Fullscreen ” at the top menu bar

To get back into using all displays, click “Fullscreen” on the top menu bar

Apple Devices

Use the keyboard shortcut command of “CTRL + CMD + F” to toggle fullscreen
mode on or off. This will use all displays in fullscreen mode and only the main
display out of fullscreen mode.
 

 

10. Sign Out (Important)

When finished, sign out of the virtual desktop (Start menu > user icon > Sign out). Avoid simply closing the window.
