Passwords for University of Baltimore Accounts must meet the following standards:
- Passwords should be at least 8 characters long
- Passwords should be composed of a mix of character types:
- Lowercase letters (a-z)
- Uppercase letters (A-Z)
- Numbers (0 – 9)
- Special characters (!, @,*, #, $, etc.)
- May not be a password previously used for this account.
- Must avoid common words and patterns including easily guessable words or phrases, and personal information (i.e. name, user name, phone number)
- Reusing passwords across different accounts is discouraged. Passwords that are known to be compromised will be blocked from use.
When resetting your password, a password reset strength meter will determine if your password is strong enough to be acceptable.
If you're having problems creating a memorable password that meets UBalt's password requirements, here are some ideas to make it easier:
- Use the first letter of each word in a favorite phrase or quote.
Ex: "Ask not what your country can do for you" can be changed to Anwyccdfy. From there you can add a number at the end Anwyccdfy61 or change the "f" to the number 4: Anwyccd4y.
- Take parts of meaningful words or dates and combine them. Take a favorite vacation spot (Rehoboth), part of your phone number (256), and where you were born (Columbia) to make Reho256Colu.
A strong, secure password does not need to be jibberish. A password is good only if you can remember it.
After your password is reset to the new standard, you will no longer be required to reset on a regular interval.
