How to Map a Network Drive in Windows

Mapping a network drive allows you to access shared folders on a server as if they were a drive on your computer.

Before You Begin

  • You must be connected to the university network or VPN (Global Protect) if working remotely.
  • You must have permission to access the shared folder.

Windows 11 Instructions

  1. Open File Explorer.
  2. Select This PC from the left navigation pane.
  3. Click the three dots (...) on the toolbar and choose Map network drive.

  1. Select an available drive letter.
  2. In the Folder box, enter the network path.
    Example:
    \\CISSV0\Department
  3. If you want the drive to reconnect after restarting your computer, check Reconnect at sign-in.
  4. If prompted to use different credentials, check Connect using different credentials.
  5. Click Finish.

  1. If prompted, enter your university username and password.

Example Network Paths

Department Network Path
R: \\CISSV0\DEPARTMENT
S: \\CISSV0\LABSHARE
T: \\CISSV0\SHARE
M: (Staff) \\CISSV0\Staff\NETID
M: (Faculty) \\CISSV0\Faculty\NETID

Note: It is the number 0 in "CISSV0" not the letter

If You Receive an Error
